So often clients will tell me their biggest problem is "portion control," because they eat more than they "should."
But here's the thing—when you get stuck on the idea of what you "should" be doing, you're letting external rules dictate how much to eat, rather than tuning in to your body's natural hunger and fullness signals and letting them guide you.
How much you need to eat is less about following strict rules or depriving yourself and more about tuning in and learning to trust your amazing body's cues.
And doesn't that sound much more empowering than having to eat a certain amount and no more? After all, eating that way sounds so boring, hard and restrictive. No wonder you find it hard.
Your body knows how much you need to eat and is always telling you.
But are you listening?
The biggest thing that gets in the way of knowing how much you need is that most of us don't really pay attention when we eat these days. Often we're multi-tasking - checking our phone or emails - or we're off some place else in our heads thinking about the next thing we have to do, rather than being present with the meal and food we're eating.
So after you decide what you WANT to eat, do what you can to be more present and in the moment when you're eating your meal. Pay attention to the food, how (hopefully deeelicious) it tastes. Pay attention to how your body feels and see if you can notice the signal of "that's enough."
